Cap de Formentor excursion

Coming to Mallorca and not going on an excursion to Cap Formentor is like going to Rome and not visiting the Colosseum or coming to Palma and not taking a free tour of the old town with Mallorca Free Tour (;D).

The whole island is full of wonders. Here we present one of the wonders of the north of the island of Mallorca: Cap Formentor, known as the Mallorcan Finisterre.

Formentor is a narrow peninsula about 20 km long located in the municipality of Pollensa. Away from the most touristy areas, this area has been a refuge for artists and has served as an inspiration for all kinds of people: poets, painters, singer-songwriters, etc.

Dream views and landscapes.

Viewpoints: Es Colomer and Albercutx watchtower

One of the first stops is the viewpoints: Mirador del Colomer and Albercutx watchtower.

From the viewpoints, the views are impressive, a vision of the Serra de Tramuntana and Cabo de Formentor in all its splendour. Of course, if someone has vertigo, be careful! The views of the cliffs impress, even the bravest.

The first viewpoint is the Colomer. There, we can see a monument dedicated to the engineer Antonio Parietti Coll. He was in charge of carrying out the construction of the current road, that connects the Port of Pollensa and the Lighthouse of Formentor.

From there, we can visit the second viewpoint: the Albercuxt watchtower. This is one of the many defence towers that was built between the 16th and 17th centuries to protect Mallorca from the constant attacks by pirates and corsairs.

Beaches: Formentor beach, cala Murta and Cala Figuera

Another obligatory stop is the beaches: Formentor beach, Cala Figuera and Cala Murta.

The beach of Formentor falls in love with the naked eye. A short and narrow beach with crystal clear waters. We recommend you stroll through the area quietly and discover one of the most famous hotels in the world in Mallorca: the Hotel Formentor, built-in 1929 by Adan Diehl, where many celebrities have stayed, such as Grace Kelly, Winston Churchill, Charles Chaplin or the Dalai Lama himself.

To get to Playa de Formentor by bus, you need to go to Puerto de Pollensa and take bus TIB 334 (Alcúdia – Far de Formentor), but it is only active in summer.

Formentor beach

The coves of Cala Murta and Cala Figuera are located on both sides of the Formentor peninsula.

The access to Cala Murta is from kilometre 14.2 of the Formentor lighthouse road, and the detour is to the right. A cove of great ethnological value, formerly owned by Costa i Llobera family.

On the other hand, Cala Figuera is still considered a virgin beach. Access is from kilometre 13.5 of the lighthouse road, and the detour is to the left. This cove stands out for being surrounded by high cliffs, a worthy image of the Mediterranean paradise.

Cala Figuera

Formentor lighthouse

The Cap Formentor excursion ends at the Formentor Lighthouse, designed by Emili Pou and was inaugurated on April 30, 1863.

Its construction was very hard due to its location, wild and isolated. During its construction, the workers worked on Sundays and holidays. For that reason, the bishop ordered an altar to be placed in the area so that the workers could listen to mass and then continue working. Its tower is 22 meters high.

Curiosity! The Formentor lighthouse is the one with the highest focus above sea level in all the Balearic Islands, at 210 meters.

An excursion in Mallorca to discover its natural landscape. A day surrounded by sea, mountains and nature.
