\u201cD\u2019es teu pa far\u00e0s sopes\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

It is related to a<\/span> traditional Mallorcan dish,<\/span><\/strong> Sopas mallorquinas; literally, it can be translated as \u201cfrom your bread, you will cook\u201d. It is used when someone must learn to take the consequences of his\/her actions.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAgafar s\u2019olla pes cap que crema\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

It means understanding the worst meaning of something.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cJa tenim la Seu plena d\u2019ous:\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Literally \u201cThe Seu (Cathedral) is already full of eggs\u201d. It refers to when a person has the feeling that he\/she has done something amazing, but for the rest of the people it is not a great thing, it is nonsense.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSortir del foc per anar al caliu\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

It means that a problem or trouble gets worse. It could something like \u201cchange one evil for another\u201d or \u201cfrom the frying pan to the fire\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTens gana? Ido menja\u2019t una cama!\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

A childish idiom, it is used usually with children when they are quite annoyed about something.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201c\u00c9s com s\u2019ase d\u2019en Mora que de tot s\u2019enamora\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

It can be translated as \u201cYou are like Mora\u2019s donkey that falls in love of everything\u201d and it means \u201cmonkey see, monkey do\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cHorabaixa”<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

It is considered one of the most beautiful Mallorcan words. It refers to the time between afternoon and evening, the moment when the sun goes down.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Caramull”<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

It refers to the amount and it means \u201ca lot of\u201d or \u201cplenty of\u201d, \u201cmany\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Tiberi”<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Many and tasty foods. It can be translated as \u201cbeanfeast\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBosses tristes\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

it is a synonym of the poor.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cXitxero, pitxo, estiragassons o p\u00e8sols\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

All of these words mean \u201cpeas\u201d. Each of them is used in different areas of Mallorca. The word <\/span>p\u00e8sol<\/span><\/em> is used on the western part of Mallorca and according to Corominas comes from the Latin \u201cpisulu\u201d. <\/span>X\u00edtxero<\/span><\/em> appears documented for the first time in 1881 and you can hear it as well in some places in Spain as <\/span>ch\u00edcharo<\/span><\/em>. The word <\/span>pitxo<\/span><\/em> is a mix between <\/span>p\u00e8sol<\/span><\/em> and <\/span>x\u00edtxero<\/span><\/em> and you will hear it in Santa Margalida and Ariany.<\/span><\/p>\n

And finally, <\/span>estiragass\u00f3<\/span><\/em>, quite typical from Felanitx area, it is, in fact, a verb <\/span>estiragarssar<\/span><\/em> that means to shell or to peel the peas. However, it refers also a funny story: during the wine exportation in Portocolom and the French sailors were hanging around at the deck, the Mallorcan teenagers used to throw peas with something similar to blowpipe to the French sailors, that game was known as \u201ctir de garcon\u201d (target shooters) and later it evolved to <\/span>estirgarss\u00f3.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
